Matthew's Galleries was opened by its current owner and director, Matthew W. Gerber, forty years ago in the New Jersey suburbs of New York City. The gallery's specialty has always been quality American paintings of the 19th and 20th centuries, with some European selections. In 1987 Mr. Gerber moved his family and the business three thousand miles across country to Lake Oswego, Oregon, just outside of Portland. The gallery maintains its specialty with emphasis on paintings by Northwest and California regionalists of the same period, and offers the largest and finest selection of such work in the Northwest.

Our sizeable gallery is conveniently located just one block off I-5, just 21 miles from Portland International Airport. The facility accommodates retail gallery space that includes at least 250 works of art exhibited for sale at any given time with fresh inventory each week. In addition, Matthew's Galleries offers two important art auctions each year, on site in our auction gallery. The gallery holds more than sixty national auction record prices on Northwest, California, and other American artists. Complete auction catalogs appear on our website, AskArt.com and ArtFact.com. Live online bidding, telephone and absentee bidding are offered to those not able to attend the live onsite auctions.

In addition to maintaining the highest degree of scholarship and business integrity, Matthew's Galleries promotes the preservation of our country's artistic heritage. Our personal attention to novice and advanced collectors includes a guaranteed trade-up policy and layaway terms. We are always seeking to purchase or consign artwork for the gallery and our art auctions. Services include fine art appraisals, consultation, and painting restoration.
